Aeroacoustic Investigation of Trailing-Edge Finlets
Show Abstract
Abstract
Wind tunnel testing and embedded large eddy simulations are employed to study the noise reduction of trailing-edge finlets on an airfoil. Trailing-edge finlets are shown to increase the distance between the highly energetic fluid par ticles and the sharp trailing

Aerospace Electromagnetic Thruster with Average Foucault Currents
Show Abstract
Abstract
The work is an attempt to find the force with which an electromagnetic system with Foucault currents acts on itself. It is taken into account that the average force with which the source of the alternating magnetic field and the inductive Foucault current is equal to zero, the self-force arises as a result of the interaction of unclosed Foucault conduction currents with the displacement current created by a conductor located in a non-uniform magnetic field. The average force acting on a symmetrical conductor located between the poles of an electromagnet turned out to be different from zero. The greatest value of this force is observed in the region of maximum inhomogeneity of the magnetic field.

High-Velocity Impact Studies on Scaled Leading Edges of Horizontal Tail with Smart Composite Layers
Show Abstract
Abstract
Bird strike studies on typical aluminium leading edges of the Horizontal Tail (HT) with and without Glass Fibre Shape Memory Polymer (GF-SMP) layers are carried out. A one-fifth scaled model of HT is designed and fabricated.
The parameters like bird dimension and energy requirements are accordingly scaled to conduct the bird strike tests. Two leading-edge components have been prepared, namely one with AL 2024-T3 aluminium alloy and the other
specimen of the same dimension and material, additionally having GF-SMP composite layers inside the metallic leading edge, in order to enhance its impact resistance. Bird strike experiments are performed on both the specimens, impacting at the centre of the leading edge in the nose tip region with an impact velocity of 115 m/s. The test component is instrumented with linear postyield strain gauges on the top side and the PZT sensors on the bottom. Furthermore, the impact scenario is monitored using a high-speed camera at 7000 fps. The bird strike event is simulated by an equation of state model, in which the mass of the bird is idealized using smooth particle hydrodynamics element in PAMCRASH® explicit solver. The strain magnitude and its pattern including time duration are found to be in a good correlation between test and simulation. Key metrics are evaluated to devise an SHM scheme for the load and impact event monitoring using strain gauges and PZT sensors. GF-SMP layers have improved the impact resistance of the aluminium leading edge which is certainly encouraging towards finding a novel solution for the high velocity impact.

Validation of Novel Model for Identification of Thermal Conditions in the Low Corona
Show Abstract
Abstract
The electron density and temperature key properties of the neutral-magnetized plasma in the solar corona, which are predicted with a novel model, provide an interesting window along the whole solar cycle. In this work, we test the
quantitative validity of the model and prove that the Coronal Density and Temperature (CODET) is reliable. Furthermore, this work contrasts the CODET model results with alternative observational remote and in-situ datasets during the simplest conditions of the quiescent corona near the solar minimum. This successful outcome/validation of the CODET model allowed a good qualitative density and temperature retrieval in the solar corona covering a large portion of time interval from solar cycles 23 and 24 .

Flight Transient Estimation of VTOL Aircraft with Propellers
Show Abstract
Abstract
Methodological issues associated with the determination of the vertical take-off and landing aerodynamic parameters equipped with two rotary propellers during take-off and hovering, descent and landing are studied in the proposed article. During the computer simulation process, kinematics parameters diagrams were made, aerodynamic coefficients and propellers thrust components at all stages of aircraft take-off were estimated. That numerical data can be used in a preliminary stage of aerodynamic design for the vertical take-off and landing aircraft and electric drones at the determination of control and equalization elements geometric and kinematic parameters.
